Chinese New Year 2009

The 2009 Chinese New Year celebration of the Year of the Ox began with the US debut of 16-year-old piano virtuoso, Wang Chung, in partnership with the Chinese American International Piano Institute at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. Celebrated author, Moh Kee Wong, gave a book talk in Medford, read from To My Hear with Smiles, a description of the courtship of her grandparents through love letters. The main celebration then moved on the Jacksonville with a traditional Lion and dragon Dance Parade and many activities such as cooking shows, calligraphy demonstrations, martial arts performances, children’s activities, and Chinese historical presentations. St. Mary’s School presented the Confucius Classroom, with made educational and Chinese cultural activities. The highlight of the festivities of the Year of the Ox was a breath-taking performance by the Pure Shaolin Kung Fu Masters of San Francisco sponsored by St. Mary’s School. It was a celebration of joy and hope for the New Year.
